We grade programmes, not universities.

A university’s NAAC grade tells you almost nothing about the online MBA it sells. So we score each management route in India on its own merits — curriculum, teaching, outcomes, flexibility, fee value and recognition — across every institution on the AISHE register.

Premier institute online programme

Autonomous institute · PG certificate or diploma

The strongest teaching and placement pull available in online mode, priced far above every other route. Recognition is not the question here; value for fee is.

Institute diploma · AIU equivalence where granted

Usually the most current syllabus of any route because the institute controls it directly. Recognition rests on the institute’s own standing rather than on entitlement.

Private university online MBA

University degree · UGC-DEB entitled

Genuinely better taught and supported than the budget end. Marked down on value: the advertised figure is often per semester, with exam and certificate charges disclosed late.

Open university online or distance MBA

University degree · UGC-DEB entitled

Unbeatable on value and fully entitled, which is why it grades well despite thin live teaching and support. The credential is sound; the experience is minimal.

A degree and a diploma can sit at the same academic level. The difference is who issues it — and that only matters where a written rule names one. When it matters →

Why autonomous programmes take the top two places

Score the six routes on the same six weighted criteria and the two highest are both run by autonomous institutes, not by universities. That is not a preference of ours — it falls out of the method.

SyllabusAn autonomous institute revises its own curriculum in a year. A university routes the same change through a board of studies, and it can take several.
Who teachesCorporate and practitioner faculty are hired directly, without the academic-post constraints a university works under.
Built for the jobThe programme is designed around what employers are asking for now, rather than around an academic calendar.
The IIM precedentThe IIMs awarded a PGDM, not an MBA, until the IIM Act of 2017 — the clearest evidence that a diploma is not automatically the lesser thing.
CostOutside the premium tier, an autonomous programme is often a fraction of a private university’s fee for comparable teaching.
Where it losesIt is a diploma. Where a rule names a degree — much government recruitment, PhD admission — you may need AIU equivalence, and that is a document to obtain in advance.

So the honest rule is this. If your next step is decided by a rulebook, take the degree. If it is decided by what you can actually do, the autonomous route is the stronger buy — and by our scoring, the strongest available.

IICT and IIPM are partner institutions running autonomous management programmes at ₹32,350 for the full two years. They are partners, not graded entries — we do not grade named institutions.

Online MBA or distance MBA?

UGC-entitled online MBA degrees are delivered fully through a learning platform with online proctored exams, and are treated as equivalent to on-campus degrees. Distance (ODL) MBA programmes run under UGC-DEB approval and usually require term-end exams at a physical centre. Both are valid for most employers; only the online mode is genuinely location-independent.

In both cases entitlement is granted per programme, per mode and per session. A university being recognised is not the same as your programme being entitled for your intake year — ask for the letter before you pay.
