The 2026 grades
Six routes, scored on the same six weighted criteria. The grade is a summary; the reasoning underneath it is the part worth reading. The method is published in full.
A — Premier institute online programme
Autonomous institute · PG certificate or diploma · score 83/100
24 months · ₹8–15 lakh. The strongest teaching and placement pull available in online mode, priced far above every other route. Recognition is not the question here; value for fee is. Take it only if the network is the point.
B+ — Autonomous institute PGDM
Institute diploma · AIU equivalence where granted · score 79/100
24 months · fee varies widely. Usually the most current syllabus of any route, because the institute controls it directly rather than routing changes through a university board. Strong for private-sector hiring, weaker where a rule names a degree.
B+ — Private university online MBA
University degree · UGC-DEB entitled · score 76/100
24 months · ₹1–2 lakh. Genuinely better taught and supported than the budget end. Marked down on value: the advertised figure is often per semester, with examination and certificate charges disclosed late. Worth it only if you will use the teaching.
B+ — Open university online or distance MBA
University degree · UGC-DEB entitled · score 74/100
24 months · from about ₹38,000 total. Unbeatable on value and fully entitled, which is why it grades well despite thin live teaching and support. Best when the credential is the point.
B — One-year PG diploma
Postgraduate diploma · score 65/100
12 months · under ₹1,00,000. The best second qualification on this list — adds one field to a degree you already hold, in half the time. Not a substitute where a rule names a degree.
C — “Mini MBA” short course
Not a qualification · score 40/100
2–4 months · ₹5,000–50,000. No regulator entitles it, because it is not a degree. It can teach you something genuinely useful, but it is sold under a name it has not earned. Take it for the learning, never for the line on your CV.
We grade routes, not colleges
These grades apply to programme types. We do not publish grades for individual institutions, because we have no defensible basis on which to score 2,877 of them one by one. No institution can pay to change a grade.
The uncomfortable summary
Below roughly ₹2,00,000, programmes in the same band differ far less than their marketing implies. Under ₹1,00,000 the differences are close to nil on paper. Above ₹2,00,000 you are buying brand and network — which can be entirely rational, provided you know that is what you are buying.
